Where is the love?

I hopped on a cab to church yesterday from Clementi. And as usual, I gave the cab driver my destination and directions.

“Uncle, Orchard Road. Please go by AYE and exit out of Clemenceu Road”

With that, I sat back and did what I enjoyed best- “stoning”.

Not long after, I realised that the cab driver made a wrong exit. Instead of Clemenceu Road, he actually exited prematurely from the AYE and entered Clementi Road again?!

Upset I questioned him and pointed out to him with much irritation what I had originally instructed. But apparently he mistakenly heard me saying Clementi and not Clememceu. Duhz….

Eventually, we had to take another route to Orchard.

Where was the love of Christ in me?

But just as I was quick to react, the Holy Spirit gave me a jab in my heart; seemingly disapproving my attitude.

Oops… I was impatient and oblivious to the feelings of the cab driver who could easily be tired from having to wake up early to work 24/7 and at his age ( maybe over 50 years old), life was already stressful enough with increased 2% GST, later withdrawl of CPF funds and the recent stock market volatility. (=P)

As I recollected that God is for the people; with a contrite heart I sought His forgiveness and I repented of my ill-spirit.

I need more of His love.

  1. Hey bro, haha, u should tell him “go by CTE and exit at clemenceu road”. if you tell him AYE, then exit clemen…., most likely is clementi for taxi drivers whose england are not powderful loh.

No wonder the taxi driver blur. haha ;P

Though you did not score distinction in this God’s test, but i think you did fail but likely get a credit for it. ;p

  2. cham, something very gulity of this kind of things too .. they call this leading a double life? nice to some, not so nice to some others.

really ” Where is the Love?”

    repent , repent.

  3. I like how you referred to it as “stoning”. It really jumped out at me, and me realize how I would never group something like that into the same category as stoning. I mean its not that serious is it?! 😉 I can understand why I might make a mistake… but understand someone is human… no way!

  4. haha that is awesome, well interestingly it made sense also in another sense (which is not how you intended it) but i thought you’d meant stoning as when Jesus says to the pharisees let he who is without sin be the first to cast a stone. thats what stuck out me in your story …

  5. Tom: Ha ha… glad I clarified =)

Btw, coincidentally I was reading this passage this morning which hit home His word in my heart…

“If I speak with human eloquence and angelic ecstasy but don’t love, I’m nothing but the creaking of a rusty gate. 2If I speak God’s Word with power, revealing all his mysteries and making everything plain as day, and if I have faith that says to a mountain, “Jump,” and it jumps, but I don’t love, I’m nothing.

If I give everything I own to the poor and even go to the stake to be burned as a martyr, but I don’t love, I’ve gotten nowhere. So, no matter what I say, what I believe, and what I do, I’m bankrupt without love.”

    1 Corinthians 13:1-3 (The Message)
