“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.”
Colossians 3:23-24 (NIV)
After reading the above scripture this morning, my attitude was deeper convinced about this term which happens also to be one of Hope Church’s philosophies: Serving FULLY before serving full-time.
I am convinced and convicted that as believers and followers of Christ, it is imperative that in EVERYTHING that we do, we need to put our FULL heart into it. But more especially so when we are serving in His Church.
The reality is that we tend to calculate our efforts when we serve in church and give minimal if not nothing for what it is worth in our eyes.
However, when it comes to our work, we can be so on-the-ball and tolerant to the demands of an over-bearing boss or over-loading responsibilities. Hey! We even make our way to work even when we don’t feel like it!?!
When in comes to serving God, ministry or His Church becomes some extra curriculam activity (ECA) that can be optional and compromised.
This is so very not right.
Yes, serving God may be on a voluntary basis with no salary to claim. But does that mean what we do is of no value???
But truth be told, what we do for His Church is of greater value that anything else in the world as this work lasts for eternity; impacting and saving lives.
I guess many of us (Christians) have failed to understand our core identity as His child, and that we are not just volunteers but His servant; His royal priesthood (c.f. 1 Peter 2:9).
Even Jesus came to serve and not to be served (c.f. Mark 10:45), so what makes us an exception?
As it is, serving FULLY can be described as giving 110% heart and soul to honor God. Not 100%, not 99% or 95% but 110% and nothing less as our God deserves our full best for His Name and glory.
