God Really Speaks

This is a simple testimony to attest of God’s love for each one of us. And that He really speaks.

During one of my sessions with God, the Holy Spirit led me to pray for a particular person. Her name and face flashed across my mind, and so I just prayed over her.

The prayer

God really speaksI was led to pray for her not to doubt God’s love and faithfulness in her life, and not to give up in her faith in Him.

It was as if God was reassuring her of His love and promises for her through the prayers.

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

Jeremiah 29:11

I believe then, she was going through a tough patch.

God speaks

The next morning, I texted her a message to share with her what God had done and spoken through Jeremiah 29:11 to her. And I left it as that.

It was not after a few days later when I received a text message from her. In her reply, this was what exactly she said…

“Thanks for your prayer…. Remembered I was having lot of bitterness on that night when I about to sleep, doubting God’s promises and confusing am I holding on something that doesn’t exist…. Was shocked in the morning when saw your msg…. Think God really speaks to encourage me through you… Ha ha… Praise the Lord.”

I was pleasantly amazed by God’s love and thankful that I had obeyed the Holy Spirit’s prompting to pray for this person in order to lift her spirits up to continue her walk with God.

Recognising His voice

What if I didn’t hear the voice of God? Or even ignored the prompting of the Holy Spirit?

When He speaks, I want to be able to recognise His voice and obey His lead.

This experience further reinforced the need for me to be sensitive to the Holy Spirit. It is when I can hear His instructions for me, then can I only be used by Him.

Where Every School is a “Military” School

I chanced upon the following entry which I thought was most disturbing because in my opinion, what was presented seemed to bare an element of truth. If this is really true, then I understand better why I am the way I am today. Do read it and decide for yourself what is the truth.

Dr. Ng Eng Hen, Minister for Education and Second Minister for DefenceNothing is accidental in Singapore. I have come to learn that these past nine years.

It is no accident, therefore, that Singapore’s education ministers come from military backgrounds. They are all former staff of the armed forces. Clearly, they have been chosen for a reason. Clearly, they are expected to bring their military experience to bear on the task of guiding the nation’s education.

A military man is not to be put in charge of education, unless one wants that education to have a military flavour. That military men are always chosen, to be education minister, rather confirms the impression of my South American friend, that Singapore’s schools are rather like military schools from overseas.

Indeed, it is most telling that the new education minister, whose name eludes me right now (he has just been appointed), is also, as I understand it, 2nd Minister for Defence. The connection between education and the military could not be more explicit, therefore.

My Read of the Month:

Finding God's Will in a crazy mixed up worldTitle: Finding the Will of God in a Crazy Mixed-up World
Author:
Tim LaHaye
Published: 1989
Genre: Christianity- Spiritual Growth
Ratings: 2.0 out of 5 stars

This book attempts to equip readers with a mental framework when approaching or seeking the will of God in their lives.

The author presents his views of God’s will in three levels: His “perfect” or complete will, “good” will and “acceptable” will describe God’s will for the people who fall into sin but then repent and still desire to do God’s basic will.

Though the three levels seems sound and logical, but yet I have my reservations on determining what is God’s perfect will and what is acceptable in a person’s life. Who are we to know or to judge? I also found some of the life examples given in the text not biblically sound or right. Therefore, this book ain’t the best to read for insights.

Do used wisdom and caution while adopting this concept especially in providing counseling to others in choosing what is perfect, good or acceptable which should be stemmed from God’s word and His ways and also in accordance to a person’s level of maturity in the faith.

Who should read it: Those who’re seeking for guidance and clarity in living out his/her life in God’s will.

Appreciating God More

Love GodSince early March I found myself confronted with an unexpected juncture that would indefinitely change the course for my life.

Despite being in the midst of such a tumultuous period in which I would liken to a phase of gestation, I find myself strangely at peace in my mind and heart. And this is only because God has been with me; walking this through with me.

Indeed, this period has been helpful in gaining clarity of His will in my life and purity in my heart.

Through this period, I have also learnt to appreciate God even more in my life. Cos I realised that whenever I need God, He is ALWAYS there and EVER-READY to listen to me.

Wonderful isn’t it, that the King of the universe would spare me His precious time to talk to a “lowly” me?

But yet I can be such an ingrate in most days where I snubbed God with my busyness and placed Him in the waiting list.

What a joke rite?

A Wake-up Call for Us?

Even as many all over the world remain in anguish and despair over the catastrophic deaths incurred by the tragic wrath of Cyclone Nagis in Myanmar and Sichuan’s earthquake in China, some if not a lot of people may be grappling over why God allowed such tragedies to even happened.

Mourning for the loss livesIs God love? If He is, doesn’t He love the victims of these disasters?

Is God heartless? How can He even allow such suffering to upon so many innocent lives?

Maybe this proves that there isn’t really a God at all?

God does exist

First and foremost, there is God and He exists!

With our finite minds, we can never “box” God up into what we comprehend of Him and the world. He exists even before we existed.

In simple terms, He created us. He’s the source and there cannot be any dispute to that. No one on earth has ever outlived God long enough to proof otherwise.

Whether or not disasters occur or not will not change the fact that He exists.

In fact, isn’t it strange how we never take notice or acknowledge God when things are going smoothly in our lives but when disaster or problems erupted, God suddenly comes into the picture?

He loves all

God loves every single one of us regardless of our nationality, race, gender, background, education or social status. That’s because to Him, we are all the same; we’re His. He created us.

It is precisely because of His deep love for us that He sacrificed His beloved Son, Jesus in order that we might be saved.

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

John 3:16

Therefore, the right place to look for the answer if God loves us is not at our circumstances like the disasters, but at the cross where He died for us.

The Church to arise

The end days are near just as Jesus had foretold in Matthew and the signs are appearing in increasing frequency and intensity.

Helping the victims of Sichuan EarthquakeOf all people, God is the most grieved. His heart aches the most to see His people going through pain and suffering.

But yet, He has to allow it because in His wisdom, He is working out His purpose.

In view of this, the Church needs to arise with urgency to the call. We need to pray for the nations and share the Good News with greater fervency.

Even in the midst of these disasters, let us manifest and reflect the existence and love of God by being His Hands in nursing those who are hurt, comforting the mourning and helping the destitute around us.

Love and Serve ALL

JESUS said….

“When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his throne in heavenly glory. All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.

“Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world.

For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’

“Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’

The King will reply, ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.’

Nation-building the Pro-Singapore Way

Last Saturday I “incidentally” turned up for a private event organised by Ms Chee Siok Chin of the Singapore Democratic Party (SDP) at the Excelsior Hotel.

One Nation Under Lee

Read the event coverage here>>>

The good side of the screening

The movie was a political documentary by Honest Productions titled One Nation Under Lee and it presented the unscrupulous ways Mr Lee Kuan Yew wielded his power since entering into the political scene.

It is very informative and factual with news reports and interviews of individuals that were victims of Mr Lee’s political regime and ambitions. Much of what was presented is unknown to Singaporeans, especially the 2nd and 3rd generation of Singaporeans like myself.

This is a must-see, though it is certain never to be approved or released by the authorities.

The ugly side of the screening

Though I applaud some of the individuals’ courageous and sacrificial stance in championing the cause for a democratic political system, I do not agree with their course of actions undertaken during the event.

For instance, the emcee boldly crushed a letter from MICA which warned them of the consequences and legal implications of screening the movie, and threw it on the floor with defiance in front of the audience.

When MICA officials arrived, shouting could be heard from inside the room. Though I wasn’t at that scene to witness who were the ones shouting, but sometimes I think we forget that whether we are government officials or politicians, we are still fellow Singaporeans.

Moreover we are all in the same plight, and perhaps even sharing the same common goal. But just on opposite sides.

Building our ideal future

Personally, I do empathise with the frustrations of the opposition wards in not been given a fair playing ground to pit against the ruling party. As it remains a fact that it is almost impossible to be a voice or have a say in our country.

Dr Chee in a protest in 2006However, I am not a supporter of outright rebellion and civil or uncivil disobedience against our government or towards any particular politician. Even how unfair the playing field might be, a basic respect still needs to be rendered to our authorities when we engage with them without being mired by personal grievances.

When we render respect, we can safely expect respect to be reciprocated. And that is how I believe we can earn the right and credibility to speak and to be heard.

Being pro-Singapore first

Without a doubt I am certain we do not want the younger generation to learn from us in becoming a disrespectful or unruly bunch in the course of exercising their freedom of speech or rights, for it is said that true freedom is being able to do the right thing at the right time.

In the course of achieving our democratic goals, I think it is far more important to impart the right values and virtues such as love and respect to our people especially the younger generation. This would surely build a more gracious, cohesive and inclusive society that we all hope for.

Because in the final analysis, it is not the political system that needs the reforming, but the people in the system that needs the reforming.

Therefore, if we truly want to convey the right message, I believe the reforming begins with each one of us first before we attempt to change or overthrow others.

Or else, how different are we from those we attempt to change?
