3 Weddings and a Football Match

Let’s begin with the football match first…

Over the last weekend, a highly-anticipated epic match between Man Utd and ARSEnal ended up with the two team sharing the spoils with a 2-2 draw. (@#%*&@)

Man U guttedArrghh….. I was gutted! And I am sure I wasn’t alone feeling the same way.

Man Utd literally threw away a win which would have toppled those Gooners Gunners from the top of the table and topping the league.

Sianz…

Okay! I am done with venting my frustrations. I dun want my friend cum Man Utd antagonist, Lindy (who’s probably going to read this) to enjoy her moment for too long =P

Now about the 3 weddings

This is the first time that I have had to attend weddings back to back to back(!?) I guess my peers are growing up liao… Ha ha…

Steven and his wife

Wedding number 1 belonged to my ex-colleague, Steven when we were working in a nightclub- PASEO (now defuncted) some 10 years ago. He was my 24/7 drinking buddy back then before I quitted the bottle.

I recalled how we used to joke that we could never get married because of our ways. And now he has walked down the aisle before me.

James & Shireen

Wedding number 2 was James and Shireen from my present Unit group in church.

When their courtship was in the initial stages, I witnessed their numerous spits and spats. And frankly, I almost thought they wouldn’t make it far because of their differences.

But God has proved Himself true and faithful to His word, and they are now embarking on a shared life journey together!

Indeed, both of them had worked hard in loving each other *clap clap clap*

Boon & Hazel

Lastly, Wedding number 3 belonged to Boon Liong and Hazel!

Personally, I am amazed and thankful at the same time how God had brought them together after one big cycle after their “seperation” from the tertiary group. And now, they are together as husband and wife =)

Phew… now it is time for me to rest from more weddings. But it will only last till next week when I will be attending another wedding-  Theo and Kim’s *sweat*

In the meantime, I guess I will be contented watching my next football match between Manchester United and Dynamo Kiev in the Champions League =P

Snapshots of HCMC

Now back in Singapore again, presenting some some shots here from my trip.

Overview of HCM City’s skyline:

Taken from 25 storeys high in its Chinatown District area with its overcrowded buildings squeezed closely together.

Not exactly a pretty sight.

Roads are not even visible, so you can imagine how hellish traffic is like over there.

Sights at Vung Tau:

Vung Tau is located 130 km away from Ho Chi Minh City and is a favourite resort destination for those wishing to get away from the city. A two-hour drive away.

The big mount at the background is one of Vung Tau’s landmarks and it has a statue of Jesus erected on the top. The statue is a miniture replica of the one in Sau Paulo, Brazil.

Halfway up the big mount with its “postcard” scenes to indulge with the sea breeze blowing in your face. But not forgetting the scorching heat too.

The breath-taking view of the coastal strip from the top of the mount.

People and others:

Roadside stall offering fishball snacks served in “Indian Rojak” style.

The “rojak” includes dog meat too *Yum Yum*

Just kidding about the dog meat part. But isn’t this pooch cute??

The kids are also cute of cos…

My favourite bunch of kids whom i have visited in HCMC for the passed 3 years. Their smiles and mischevious antics never fails to refresh me.

They love posing for the camera. They will do anything to get their pictures on my camera =P

Lastly one of my favourite shots…

*Aawwww*

National Stadium Closing Ceremony

I was presented with two complimentary grandstand tickets to the National Stadium Closing Ceremony that was held last Saturday (30 June).

It was touted to be the grandest of grandest ceremony for this Grand Old Lady. But sadly, the stuff didn’t quite matched up with the buzz.

Hey… there were other Singaporeans who gave similar comments as I leh….

First, Singapore played more like cats then lions to visitors Australia. And we lose 0 – 3. But of cos it was a treat to see the likes of Mark Viduka and Harry Kewell in flesh.

Below was the closest shot I could get of Harry Kewell, player for Liverpool FC.

Secondly was the let-down by the programme. Besides the Singapore versus Australia match, the rest were not fitting for a closing ceremony. Really CMI.

Lastly was the most anticipated fireworks. But I tell you that the fireworks went off in a fizzle. It was executed in an unglam manner and worse, only 2-3 minutes. It looked like a low-budget production.

I think even our IMF foreign delegates were treated with better fireworks at the Esplanade when they visited us. Apa ini….

But okay lar… free tickets so shouldn’t make so much noise rite? =p

Anyway I got to see the cauldron being lighted up for the first time and sat at the grandstand watching soccer for the first (and the last) time.

Good bye National Stadium, See you Sports Hub.

Back from church camp

Camp’s over!

Wow… what a blast it was! Held at the Hotel Equatorial, it was really a great place to soak in His presence and word. Personally, I vote this camp as the BEST venue so far. Great choice by the organising committee.

More importantly, I am glad I left camp with more clarity over certain issues that I was facing in life. My God is a personal god who lives and loves me =)

Though camp may be over, but in true fact, it has only begun. Now to bring God out of the camp walls and into the world we live in!

We need to be a prevailing generation that truly impacts our society in a radical way for Jesus!

I have moved

Finally after more than 25 years at Blk 438 as my home, I have moved.

Now presenting my new home- Clementi Heights!

Ha ha… Macham condo name, but actually HDB… =P

Just to avoid any misunderstanding, I’m moving cos of my old home kena en-bloc by the gahmen, and not cos I got married hor… Hee hee…

That’s my view from my room. It’s so near the Clementi swimming complex that one day I might even consider diving into the pool from my window.

Ha ha… Just kidding!

An unexpected visit

I had an unexpected visit by an ex-colleague and friend who joined me for Sunday service last Sunday.

See if you can identify the person beside me….

I guess not… =P

HWA Alumni dinner

Had a chance to catch up with my ex-colleagues from the Handicap Welfare Association (HWA) a few days ago.

We most definitely had a hearty time eating and catching up…

Personally my 2 years at HWA has helped me much in working within corporate culture of an organisation. Especially in terms of “CC”- cover cacheng =p

Being a upfront and direct person, I had difficulty adapting to that sort of culture. However, thankfully there were colleagues who were geniune in their friendships.

And I thank God for them!

Starting from the left, presenting: Bessie, Gladys, Stephanie, Cassandra and me.

And not to forget my HWA buddy…. Beng Choon (below).

This is one great guy, friend and bro-in-Christ. Only thing is that he always think he handsome. Ha ha…

I think American Idol ex-contestant, Sanjaya Malakar also more handsome than him =p

On a serious note, Beng Choon has been one great blessing from God and I was privileged to witness how he eventually came to know God personally during my 2 years at HWA. And it was interesting that he kept an email correspondence that we shared then. Read here>>>

After reading it, I am thankful how God has brought us this far as friends =)

Labour Day@The Istana

Labour Day was a holiday but it was still a day of labouring in the Lord =)

Again, I did another first as a Singaporean. I visited the Istana where Mr President lived, work and play.

Unfortunately, he wasn’t there. He ‘put our aeroplane’. Think better not give increment since never do OT. Ha ha…

Entry was free for Singaporeans and PR citizens. But foreigners had to pay $1.

Walking in was a long way sia… Reminded me of the treetop walk… CMI.

Our President sure has a good life. His garden is a golf course leh…

We had to walk about 15 minutes before arriving at his door step and had to pay ‘ERP’ $2 to tour inside.

Sorry no photos were allowed to be taken in there, but I must add that it was a boring walk and cannot see much but the function rooms. Even the toilet was out of bounds.

Hmmm… I wonder what couldn’t be shown in that toilet… A gold tap? =p

Overall, it was a okay time lar… Public education session on the life of the President. Ho ho…

And here’s (below) a funny shot!
